I took an instant dislike to J\u016brmala for some reason. Majori felt like little more than a cluster of semi-interesting houses, some tacky and boring shops and restaurants, and a boring beach (maybe good for sunbathing but not much else). On the beach, some sort of event was being set up, and a camera crew was interviewing people. I spent maybe five minutes total by the ocean. So much for exploring the Baltic coast!<\/p>\n

I had planned to follow a simple walking tour in J\u016brmala for a few kilometers between towns, but I abandoned the idea quickly. I couldn’t wait to get out of there and back to Riga. I suppose it would have been better to try a different town \u2013 I wasn’t totally surprised by what I found but was hoping I might find something better than expected. No such luck.<\/p>\n
